US Army Corps of Engineers - Olmsted Lock and Dam
We have been contracted by the Washington Group to provide diving and diving-related services as required in the building of Olmsted Dam on the Ohio River. In 1997 after studying variousmethods for constructing the dam the Corps of Engineers (COE) decided to use an innovative method known as “In-the-Wet” for the Olmsted Dam. Basically, sections of the dam known as shells are prefabricated on shore in a precast yard and carried out into the river and set in place. The dam consists of two primary areas; the tainter gate section and the navigable pass section. Please see http://www.lrl.usace.army.mil/poi/article.asp?id=525&MyCategory=297 for details of construction methodology.
