Port of Anchorage - Wharf Piling Repair

We provided project management, diving and topside support for the reinforcement of 25 steel piles under the Port of Anchorage wharf. The project was challenged by zero visibility underwater and tide swings of up to 30 feet a day. A purpose-built, automated pile cleaner was designed in-house and fabricated to clean the piles underwater using high-pressure water (20,000 psi). The lack of visibility necessitated an automated means of cleaning the piles to ensure diver safety and thorough cleaning.

Once the piles were clean, three-part steel jackets were installed over the piling and secured in place. Grout was pumped between the new reinforcement jacket and the existing pile. The reinforcement jackets were left in place.
