Salmon and Steelhead Recovery in Hood Canal, WA
December 30, 2022
Since the construction of the Hood Canal floating bridge in western Washington there have been challenges placed on steelhead trout migration. Long Live the Kings (LLTK) is a Seattle-based nonprofit that works to restore wild salmon and steelhead and to support sustainable fishing. Through the years they have worked to improve the management of our natural environment and provide solutions for stakeholders. LLTK has discovered that each year, the steelhead have been struggling to pass underneath the bridge, leading to population decline.
Global Diving & Salvage has been contracted by LLTK to give aid in their longstanding mission to restore wild salmon and steelhead in the Pacific Northwest. The innovative solution to this population issue is through the installation of a “fish guidance” structure that will help guide the steelhead past the bridge more quickly. This will allow the threatened species to have a more seamless and natural migration.
We are honored to play a role in this important project and will continue to support them in their mission of education and restoration. The mission of LLTK is so special to our team that we recently attended one of their events at Lilliwaup hatchery to show our support.
