Meet the MER Family
September 16, 2020
It’s been a year and a half since Global joined the MER family of companies, which has allowed us to broaden our geographic reach and expand our capabilities. By now, you’re probably familiar with all of Global’s service lines – commercial diving, marine construction, marine casualty response and environmental services – so we thought we’d share some information about MER.
When Moran Environmental Recovery was founded, it was focused on providing niche services in the industrial and environmental arena with a vision to create a company grounded in performance-driven quality, safety, and service. Decades later, MER has combined the strength of five specialty companies within three integrated business lines to become one of the most diverse environmental companies in North America. MER is active in 21 states and Canada and has nearly 1,000 dedicated employees. MER is a subsidiary of Moran Towing Corporation (Moran Maritime), based in New Canaan, CT. Moran Maritime is recognized worldwide for providing quality marine transportation for more than 160 years. Moran provides ship docking, harbor services and marine transportation all along the East and Gulf coasts with a fleet of more than 90 tugs and 20 barges.
MER’s legacy began with environmental services. MER provides remediation, waste management, and recycling services to clients through resource centers located along the East Coast and the Midwest. With a national reputation for strength in spill preparedness and response, MER is contracted to support major national clients, government agencies, and regional spill cooperatives.
MER’s in-house emergency response and preparedness program provides quick and effective management of spills, natural disasters, and any event requiring logistical and tactical expertise. MER is a nationally recognized Oil Spill Removal Organization (OSRO), and one of few companies in the U.S. that holds a Nonfloating Oil (NFO) USCG Classification.
MER’s industrial services program provides seamless performance in the power generation, transmission and distribution, facility maintenance and petrochemical industries. Core services include abatement, industrial cleaning, outage and turn-around service, and safety services.
CORI (Coastal and Ocean Resources), located in Victoria, B.C., specializes in nearshore oceanography, ecology, and coastal habitat imaging and mapping. Their ShoreZone mapping system provides a searchable inventory of intertidal and nearshore habitat attributes for science, education, resource management, and environmental hazard planning.
MER Diving provides inland commercial diving services through offices in Murray, KY, and Charleston, SC.
MER subsidiary Drummac has been providing maintenance, inspection, repair and quality control services to several leading passenger and freight rail companies for more than 40 years, working from field offices around the country.
WRI (Water Recovery) is an award-winning centralized wastewater treatment plant located in Jacksonville, FL, specializing in non-hazardous wastewater treatment and transportation, as well as used oil recycling.
Global is proud to be a valuable member of the MER family. Working together as a cohesive group, the MER organization offers an incredible depth of services and expertise, capable of serving clients throughout the U.S. and worldwide.
