PROJECT DETAIL

Asarco Smelter Environmental Cleanup

December , 2010

After operating for nearly 100 years, the Asarco copper smelter in Tacoma, WA was closed in 1985. Unfortunately during its many years of operation, the smelter released heavy metals which settled onto many yards in and around the Ruston Way neighborhood. The site is among the largest Superfund Sites in the Puget Sound.

in 2009, Global provided assistance with the removal of contaminated soil from over 60 household yards in the area as part of the environmental cleanup. The 12 man team operated a variety of equipment including skid steer loaders, dump trucks and excavators to assist with the removal and materials handling.

Existing soils, previously tested, were removed from the designated yards and transported for proper disposal. New materials, including soil, gravel and sod, were brought in to replace that material which was removed.
