PROJECT DETAIL

Belize Pile Wrap Installation

August , 2019

Global was recently contracted to perform a large pile wrap installation project in Belize.  Contracted by PND Engineers, Global inspected and wrapped 113 steel piles on the Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) docking pier on the island of Harvest Caye in Belize. Working around the active cruise ship schedule, the divers first performed a Level 1 inspection on 100% of the piles; the divers also performed a Level 2 inspection on 13 of the piles, and a Level 3 inspection on 7 of the piles. Once the piles were inspected, the divers cleaned and wrapped all 113 piles using the Denso 2000HD Series soft pile wraps. The project was completed safely and to the owner’s satisfaction.

Although the overall pile inspection and wrap installation project was routine for Global, working on a remote private island location in a foreign country added several challenges that the crew overcame to perform the work successfully. The majority of the equipment utilized, including the spud barge, skiffs, welders, crane support and laborers were subcontracted from R&B Construction in Placencia, Belize. Global’s team was required to be self-sufficient and work with limited resources in the area; severe storms bringing heavy rain, lightning and extreme humidity also made work difficult. Global’s project management team worked closely with a freight forwarder and customs broker to ensure critical gear arrived on site in a timely manner; the management team also carefully coordinated the timing of personnel transportation and material deliveries back and forth to the mainland to avoid delays.
