PROJECT DETAIL
Washington State DOT determined that to avoid galvanic corrosion, two stainless steel bands that had previously been installed on one of the Hood Canal Bridge’s anchor cables needed to be removed; Global was awarded the small works project bid. The team mobilized to the site on Global’s Prudhoe Bay and used their Falcon ROV to locate the bands at a depth of 233’. Global then mobilized a small dive barge equipped with a deep gas dive spread; the diver cut off the two stainless steel bands using hand tools and retrieved them to the surface. Special planning and execution was required due to the depth of the dive and the high currents in the area; the work was performed on schedule and on budget to the client’s satisfaction.
